Resident Choreographer

Cindy Michaels, Ballet Master & Resident Choreographer, is originally from California where she served as Artistic Director of Redding City Ballet from 1997 to 2012, and as Director of Dance for the Shasta College Fine Arts Department teaching ballet, modern dance, choreography/dance analysis and partnered adagio classes. Her thirty year performance and teaching career has provided her with extensive knowledge of classic and contemporary ballet repertory as well as the mechanics that govern classical technique training. She has set historical works, and created numerous works of her own for operas, musicals, summer dance and theater festivals, and now, Ballet North Texas.

Mrs. Michaels holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of California Santa Barbara in Psychology.  She danced with the UCSB dance department under Alice Condodino, an original member of the Jose Limon Company, and with Esa Bergson from Merce Cunningham.  After college, Cindy danced at Valerie Houston Dance Theatre and Santa Barbara Ballet. 

 

Mrs. Michaels’ continued training over the years has included classes with Maggie Black, Finis Jhung, Bruce Wells (Pacific Northwest Ballet), Alonzo King, and Arturo Fernandez (Alonzo King’s Lines Ballet). She has attended teacher training seminars with Pacific Northwest Ballet, and workshops with Pilobolus and Alexandra Dickson and Alice White from the Seattle Dance Project.
